The “Wies’n” (Bavarian for field/meadow) is a traditional festival that was first held on October 12th, 1810 to celebrate the wedding of Crown Prince Ludwig (later to become King Ludwig I) to Princess Therese of Saxony Hildburghausen. The festivities were attended by the people of Munich and they named the fields in Therese’s honor – “Theresienwiese”. Today more than 6 million visitors come to celebrate.
